How to Choose the Right Firewall for Your Business
Start with what you're protecting
Before comparing brands or models, list what actually sits behind your network: how many users, how many locations, what applications depend on stable, low-latency access. A firewall sized for a 10-person office will struggle in a 60-person warehouse with CCTV and VoIP running on the same line.
Throughput vs. features
A firewall's advertised throughput is usually measured without security features switched on. Once you enable intrusion prevention, VPN and content filtering, real-world throughput drops. Ask for numbers with the features you'll actually use turned on, not the headline spec.
Plan for support, not just the box
A firewall is only as good as its configuration and how it is maintained. Firmware updates, policy reviews and license renewals matter as much as the hardware itself. Factor ongoing support into your decision, not just the purchase price.
